Step 4: Compare profiles

Listen to profiles in pairs and choose the one that sounds better.

The Tuning step is the heart of the wizard. You hear two profiles, one after the other, and pick the one that sounds better to you.

How a comparison works

Listen to both profiles

The test audio plays, and two profile buttons appear under Select Profile, for example Profile 1: Light Speech Clarity and Profile 2: Speech Clarity. Select a profile to hear it.

Give each profile time

Listen to each profile for at least 10 seconds. A counter shows your progress, for example "Listened 3 of 10 seconds". The second profile unlocks once the first has played long enough. If you prefer, choose Auto-switch after 10 seconds and the wizard moves between them for you.

Choose the one you prefer

When you have heard both, select the profile that sounds better and press Next. If Next is unavailable, the message beneath it tells you what is missing.

What happens next

Your choice decides what you hear next. Depending on your answers, the wizard may:

  • Play another pair, to narrow down to the profile that suits you.
  • Ask whether a profile "sounds better, but could it be even clearer?", and offer Yes, it could be clearer or It's clear enough for me.
  • Ask you to raise Boost while listening, until it is loud enough for you. Use the slider and the test audio.
  • Offer to save a profile with a suggested name, which you can edit, before it compares the next pair.

When you have found a good starting point, the wizard confirms it: "Okay, now that you've got a base profile, let's FINE TUNE!"

Tips

  • Trust your first impression, then check it on the second listen.
  • Pick the sound you could happily listen to for a long call, rather than the loudest.
  • If two profiles sound the same, choose either. You will refine the result in the next step.

Next: Step 5: Fine tuning.
